WFYI Public Media has partnered with the Economic Club of Indiana to host the club's monthly luncheons. Many talented and articulate leaders are scheduled to present their thoughts and ideas throughout the season.

During the luncheon events a volunteer photographer is needed to capture candid moments of attendees and speakers.

Help our Education Specialist research and compile education-based information. This information compilation will help with outreach, planning and coordination.

During the luncheon events, volunteers are needed to help with event support including light set-up and tear-down as well as guest check-in. Volunteers will have the opportunity to listen to the speaker and lunch will be provided.

The WFYI community engagement team is looking for a volunteer to assist with material prep for the upcoming Better Together: Celebrating US event on January 31st. 

A volunteer is needed to come into the office for 1-2 hours to prepare event materials (make copies, activity prep, etc.). After signing up for this opportunity, the day/time for this need will be set between the volunteer and staff member. 

WFYI is hosting a one-hour screening of the documentary, The Inquisitor, which covers the life of Texas politician Barbara Jordan. Guests will enjoy the screening, engage in resource tables, and do an activity at the conclusion of the film.

Volunteers are needed to welcome and guide guests to the screening location, assist as needed throughout the event and help distribute post screening materials.

Join WFYI on MLK Day at Seeds of Caring Youth Day of Service! We will be having an activity table for children to participate in throughout the day. Volunteers will help with light set up/tear down and assist children with the activity. 

Join WFYI at Better Together: Celebrating US! for a civics celebration at Central Library. Participants will watch screeners from the new six-part documentary American Revolution, directed by Ken Burns and can enjoy hands on civic activities from several local organizations. 

Volunteers are needed to help with WFYI's activity tables throughout the event including a listening activity and ways to be a helper activity for children. 

As part of The American Revolution documentary promotion we are sharing an opportunity to help transcribe Library of Congress documents. Volunteers create and review transcriptions to improve search, access, and discovery of these pages from history. Information including account creation and training can be found by clicking here.

Volunteers can help with this on their own time as long as projects are available. 

Help us document the work of partners and neighbors at Better Together: The Story of US, an engagement event that supports the lessons from THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.

We are looking for volunteers to research recipes from the 18th century in Indiana to submit to THE AMERICAN REVOUTION website. This is an ongoing opportunity through January 2026.

Volunteers will research recipe books and other archives housed in the libraries, Indiana History Center and other sources that date to that period. Transcribe and attribute and share with the WFYI Community Engagement team. 

WFYI is seeking photographers to capture special events, candid shoots with member families, new WFYI "gear" and member-gifts, staff and hosts, and partner engagement activities.

Photography volunteers will sssist with coordination of photographed subjects (i.e. finding a time/place to photograph a new radio host). - Consult with Marketing team to understand needed shots (Marketing staff can/will be involved in certain shoots), and align needed shots with WFYI's larger goals of diversity and inclusion. - Execute photography sessions with professionalism and positivity, understanding that they are serving as a representative of WFYI. - Upload files to WFYI space (ideally via Dropbox or Microsoft SharePoint).

Volunteer will need their own camera, lenses, and other photography materials, as well as a stable internet connection and mode of transportation to shoots. Photos can be uploaded remotely to WFYI servers and WFYI would retain permission to use, edit and distribute all images.

Once you sign up for this opportunity you will be connected with our marketing team and contacted for photography needs. 

Spend an hour or two outdoors and do some good for the environment! WFYI is searching for environmentally conscious volunteers to help our neighborhood be litter free for a cleaner environment. 

Help us lead the charge against litter around WFYI and in the public spaces in the WFYI neighborhood.

Volunteers should be independent and able to work with limited supervision and be comfortable working with light equipment.

This is an ongoing opportunity on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays each week. The start time is flexible but 9-11 is the requested opportunity time. 

Volunteers will be provided with gloves, litter grabbers and other necessary material.

Have you ever bar tended? Worked an event where you obtained your pouring license? If so, please let us know!

WFYI occasionally has events with volunteer opportunities that require a pouring license for beer and wine. By submitting this form you will be added to the contact list and will be notified as needs arise. 

Due to taking precautions in regards to Covid-19 IRIS Program Readers are still volunteering at home. While most programs are being recorded remotely we have a handful of programs that still need a remote reader. 

We have volunteers who read from a variety of publications on a monthly basis that include local and national newspapers, online articles, magazines, chapter books, and public service announcements related to food pantry listings, library services, government services, and local events for the disabled. IRIS airs from 6 am-10 pm daily with new updated programs every week. 

If you have access to a smart phone/computer and are tech savvy this opportunity would be a good fit for you! Volunteers are needed for weekly and monthly programs.
